distinct disadvantage with your marketing compared to the
bigger companies. No more. Small business owners will actually have an edge
over bigger companies thanks to the emerging marketing
model. Yes, you heard right. Emerging marketing model. The old
ways of marketing are dying. And a new regime is coming of
age. To understand how marketing is changing, it's important to
start with a bit of history. The image most of us have of
marketing is based on an old communications model, one
that was popular in, say, the 1970s. That was when we had
three broadcast networks (ABC, CBS and NBC -- no FOX
either) a public station, one newspaper and a handful of
magazines and radio stations. Trade magazines and
newsletters were few and far between, we had no Internet
and no e-mail. Because consumers had so few choices, it was fairly easy
to market to them. Chances were pretty good they were
watching, reading or listening to one of a handful of mass
media sources. In fact, to be successful in this marketing model, all you
really needed was money. Here's how it worked. A business created a good product.
The business hired an advertising agency. The agency
spent thousands of dollars placing ads on the three
network television stations and national magazines.
Perhaps it also bought a few spots on local radio stations
and newspapers. And if the ad budget was big enough,
success was practically guaranteed. There was no mystery to marketing. Mostly it was a
numbers game. Spend the money and get a return.
Businesses were selling products. Mass media
businesses were selling advertising space. Advertising
agencies were buying space. Everyone was making money.
And everyone was happy. Fast forward to 2004. Now, instead of three television
channels we have hundreds. Instead of a handful of
magazines we have dozens, including about a million trade
publications. On top of that, we have the Internet and e-mail
just begging for a piece of our time. Never before in the history of communications have
audiences been so fragmented. Just finding your
customers has turned into that old adage of finding a
needle in a haystack. But thats not the only challenge --
even if you do locate your customers thats no guarantee
they'll listen to you. Wherever we go, we are confronted by marketing message
after marketing message. It's been estimated that we're
bombarded with over 3,000 messages a day...and that
number keeps going up. How have we responded? By
learning to shut most of those messages out (which of
course makes it even harder for marketers to get us to act
upon their message). But the woes of the traditional marketing model don't end
there. The Internet has also introduced a little thing called
accountability When you market online, you can track what people are
looking at and, even more importantly, where you lost them
in selling process. For instance, you can check your Web
site stats and see which pages people entered your site
and which pages made them leave. You can track what
people clicked on in your e-mail campaign or if they clicked
at all. With traditional or offline marketing, you only know if it
worked (a customer bought something) or didnt (a
customer didnt buy something). You dont know if they saw
the ad, read the ad or what happened. All of this is bad news for those who have built their
business on the traditional marketing model. But, it could be

The Feldenkrais Method - Description and Benefits

By Michael Russell The Feldenkrais Method (FM) was first taught in the 1950s by Moshe Feldenkrais, who had a doctorate in science from the Sorbonne, but studied many other subjects, including martial arts, prenatal development, cybernetics and linguistics. It has two components, Functional Integration and Awareness Through Movement. Functional Integration consists of one-on-one sessions which begin with the practitioner's assessing how the client sits, stands and moves. Then the practitioner begins to gently move different parts of their body. These movements start out small, but get larger as the session proceeds. They are never intended to be painful, because pain will inhibit movement. The client's only participation in the session is to notice how they feel when different parts of their body are moved in different ways (and of course inform the practitioner if any movement causes pain, so it can be stopped or changed). After a treatment the client may notice that they sit, stand, or move differently, or perhaps they just feel more relaxed. Awareness Through Movement is done in groups, with one practitioner and many clients/student. In one of these classes the practitioner has the students perform certain movements, asking questions throughout the class to help the students pay attention to what is happening in their bodies and how they feel as they move in certain ways. The Feldenkrais Method has many uses. It is good for people recovering from an injury because it can teach them how to move in a way that does not aggravate the injury or increase their pain. It's good for seniors and others who may not be able to move much, but who want to stay as active as they can. It can even help people who can't move in some ways at all, because it can help improve the quality of movements a person can make. Could be that, who really knows, right? Well evolution makes sense and we have evidence of this of course, yet no one can say there was not a head start somewhere along the way. So, being a complete atheist, you have to claim to know, and since we don't know, that makes it tough to be 100% sure of it, the evolutionary tract as the complete and final answer. And in that evolutionary concepts are rather diverse in themselves. So, as far as evolution VS god, well define what god is, which god you are talking about of which religion. Once at home, you then wished you were more outgoing and could connect with people at the events? First, determine your motivation(s) for going to the event: 1. To be "seen" 2. To meet new people 3. To get information from others 4. To share ideas with others 5. To get known 6. To sell others your product / services Different goals require different approaches: 1. To be "seen" - This is the easiest goal to achieve. Basically walk around, smile at people, and talk to people that you know or who approach you first. You're passively attending the event. 2. To meet new people - Here's a secret: everyone who goes to networking events wants people to talk to them. Go up to people who are by themselves. Ask them about their business and non-business interests. Share something of interest about yourself. You're trying to find people who you "connect" with. Smile. When you've met someone of interest, get their contact information and follow up. 3. To get information from others - Think of the event as a big informational interview. Introduce yourself to the host, and tell them that you're looking to talk to people who might have answers to your questions. The host's introduction will smooth the opening, and the "experts" will be flattered to be sought out. Make sure to thank the experts after the event with an email or (even better) a hand-written note. 4. To share ideas with others - This is basically the other side of the previous goal. When you first arrive, introduce yourself to the host. Tell them of your expertise and give them permission to introduce others to you. You'll be helping the host provide a useful service (other than simply greeting) and also establish yourself. 5. To get known - There's an advertising axiom that says you need to see the same ad 7+ times before it's in your consciousness. It's also true at business events. While you only have one chance to make a first impression, consistent following-up with people will result in being recognized. To get known, you need to repeatedly show up to events. You don't have to talk to the same people each time (simply being "seen" is often enough), but do make it a point to remember something about your last conversation with them. People like to be remembered. Follow up with people you've met (for the first time) with an email or note. 6. To sell others your product / services - Many people go to events to find a new customer. Think back to all the events you've gone to. How many times have you talked with someone and thought "I need to buy that NOW"? Instead of hard-selling yourself, tell stories about people who've used your products or services. Highlight the benefits. Tell how you solve their problem. Offer to send them marketing materials. Pastor Help: A Sheep Dog for the Shepherd

By Paul Davis Working for God can be both exhilarating and tiring. It's fun when you feel the Holy Spirit that rose Christ from the dead flowing through you to help people. Yet it can be exhausting when the people exalt you to the place of God and forget to pray to God themselves. We must never forget God will not permit any flesh to glory in His presence (1 Corinthians 1:29). God does not share His glory. As ministers we realize God alone is all powerful, wise and loving. Communicating that to a congregation effectively however requires that sometimes you not always be accessible throughout the week to your people so they can learn to go to Pastor Jesus instead of you. Remember Jesus is the chief Shepherd of the flock and we His under shepherds. Among the fivefold ministry gifts mentioned by the apostle Paul in Ephesians chapter 4, the Pastor is the most residential one of them all. He therefore is by nature most local and accessible. Nevertheless there is a balance that must be achieved and proper protocol to be established to ensure the Pastor maintains his personal sanity and the people direct their focus to God. If a church only knows the Pastoral office and never feeds on any other ministerial gifting it is easy to quickly idolize the Pastor above measure. Each minister has been allotted by God a "measure of rule" within which they are granted a divine grace to get the job done (2Corinthians 10:13). When we try to enlarge ourselves beyond measure and stretch our ministerial mantel beyond our God given grace, a breakdown is inevitable. The day of the one-man show is over. God is looking to build a body of believers who are secure in Him, strong in the Spirit and grounded in His Word. Among the three models of churches in the early New Testament, the church at Antioch proved to be most in alignment with the model of developing breakthrough believers. The church at Jerusalem was primarily built on the apostle Peter's personality (Acts 2), without which when persecution hit the church they all scattered (Acts 8). The is quite common for many churches established upon the senior Pastor's personality. When the Senior Pastor is away the attendance declines and the offerings decrease. The church at Ephesus was one in transition as Priscilla and Aguila showed the way of God more perfectly to Apollos (Acts 18:24-26). We all need mentors. Even ministers need ministry to strengthen, encourage and empower them. This Apollos received and as a result he grew into another level of meaningful ministry. In the natural realm, every shepherd has a sheep dog to help keep the sheep in order. The sheep dog barks a bit and gives the shepherd some rest throughout the day. The sheep dog has his own way of getting through to the sheep. The sheep dog may be a bit more rough, but nevertheless the same results are derived. A sheep dog in modern day church vernacular could fall within the fivefold ministry offices. Such a minister could be local within your congregation or in the body of Christ at large worldwide. This sheep dog of sorts can take the pulpit for the Pastor and say certain things to the congregation that the Pastor might want to say but be a bit hesitant in articulating. The sheep dog can be a bit more bold and aggressive in order to get the sheep to wake up, come into alignment with the vision and stop fighting one another. When a Pastor is weary in well doing, he needs to call in a sheep dog to bark a while. Don't let your congregation, church committee or a few irritating church members get the best of you. Making a Splash with Water Features in the Garden

By Nikki Phipps Want to add additional charm and tranquility to your garden? Incorporate a water feature. No matter what size or type of garden you have, there are a number of water features that will fit into any design or space, as well as any budget. A garden pond can add special qualities to nearly any landscape. Vinyl or fiberglass pond liners are widely available at garden centers or through water garden suppliers. These come in a variety of sizes which offer flexible options to easily suit your particular needs. They can also be placed either above or below ground so if your space cannot accommodate a large water pond, such as with balconies, containers make excellent alternatives. Nearly any type of watertight container can be easily transformed into a miniature garden pond. If its not watertight, PVC liners are available at most garden centers which will help to waterproof your container. Half-wooden barrels and galvanized washtubs are the most commonly used. Place your pond in a location that receives at least 4-6 hours of full sun. Make certain that your site is leveled off as well. If your space permits, stick your mini pond in the ground to help minimize the chances of it freezing over. Dig out the soil, keeping it large enough for your pond liner or container to fit into. Level off the bottom and add an even layer of sand. Place the liner or container inside and fill in around it with the excavated dirt. Add some water and approximately 3-5 plants, depending on the size of your pond. Water lilies, cattails, water hyacinths, and sweet flag are exceptional choices. Conceal the outer edges of your pond with additional moisture-loving plants and rocks for further interest. Moving water adds character to the garden, and both waterfalls and fountains make pleasant accents. Garden centers and professional pond retailers offer many types of easy, do-it-yourself kits that fit nearly any budget or garden design. Waterfalls can flow over rocks or run down retaining walls. They can be formal or informal. There are numerous resources available for waterfall ideas; however, different landscapes will affect the overall design. Therefore, to achieve a successful waterfall design, be sure to choose an area and design that will fit into your specific landscape. Fountains always make wonderful additions to any type of setting, and fountain kits can make this possible. Fountains come in an array of choices to suit your personal preferences; they can splash, gurgle, spray, drip, etc. You can place your fountain just about anywhere. For instance, the bottom of a small pond or even a large container such as an urn, planter, barrel, or strawberry jar can create stunning homes for your fountain. Place the fountain pump in the bottom of your pond or container and follow the instructions included with your kit. Enhance the fountain with stones, pebbles, and plants. Hollowed-out bamboo canes can also be transformed into serene water features. For example, drill some holes in various areas along the cane. Attach the cane, in an upright position, to a submersible pump placed in the bottom of a large container, such as a half-wooden barrel. Fill with water, plug it into a nearby outlet, and relax to the soothing sounds of water trickling from the cane. You could also place a stone basin among a group of plantings. Make sure the basin is large enough to catch water. Hollow out 3/4 of a bamboo cane and cut this into two varying lengths, one long and one short, with the shorter piece hollowed only halfway. Slightly angle the hollowed end of the short cane (this is where the water runs out). Meanwhile, place a submersible pump in a reservoir behind the basin and secure in place using stones. Insert vinyl tubing through the large piece of cane, fastening the bottom part to your submersible pump. Drill out a hole near the center of the small piece of bamboo just large enough to fit the top of the larger piece inside, running the remainder of vinyl tubing through the small cane. Once secure, seal this with a waterproof sealant such as caulking (clear). Conceal the reservoir with plants. Fill both the basin and reservoir with water, plug it up, and enjoy its soft trickle effect. If ponds, waterfalls, or fountains are not your thing, even the most subtle of water accents, such as basins and birdbaths, can add a sense of peace to your garden. Birdbaths can be nothing more than a shallow dish of water sitting on an over-turned container. There are endless ways to add water to your landscape; simply use a little creativity and see what happens. Feeling Frisky? Herbs for Fertility

By Susun Weed For thousands of years knowledge of the herbs and wild plants that could increase fertility were the secrets of the village wise women. But after the holocaust against European Wise Women (the "burning times") and the virtual extermination of Native American medicine women, this knowledge virtually disappeared. In fact, many people erroneously believe that "primitive people" had no means of controlling the likelihood of pregnancy. Nothing could be further from the truth. Many common plants can be used to influence fertility, including red clover, partridge berry, liferoot, wild carrot, and wild yam. Some of these grow wild, others are easy to cultivate, and, with the exception of wild carrot, all are also readily available at health food stores. One of the most cherished of the fertility-increasing plants is red clover (Trifolium pratense). Common in fields and along roadsides, it has bright pink (not really red) blossoms from mid-summer into the chilly days of fall. A favorite flower of the honeybees, the tops (blossoms and appending leaves) are harvested on bright sunny days and eaten as is, or dried for medicinal use. The raw blossoms are delicious in salads and nutritious when cooked with grains such as rice or millet. To make a fertility-enhancing infusion, I take one ounce by weight of the dried blossoms (fresh won't work for this application) and put them in a quart size canning jar. I fill the jar with boiling water, screw on a tight lid, and let it steep at room temperature overnight (or for at least four hours). Dozens of women have told me that they had successful pregnancies after drinking a cup or more (up to four cups) a day of red clover infusion. It is especially helpful if there is scarring of the fallopian tubes, irregular menses, abnormal cells in the reproductive tract, or "unexplained" infertility. It may take several months for the full effect of this herb to come on and pregnancy may not occur until you have used it for a year or two. You can improve the taste by including some dried peppermint (a spoonful or two) along with the dried clover blossoms when making your infusion. Treat the father of the child-to-be to some red clover infusion too! That little evergreen creeper that carpets some parts of the woods around your house is partridge berry (Mitchella repens), also known as squaw weed, supposedly because of its ability to enhance fertility. (My teacher Twylah Nitsch, grandmother of the Seneca Wolf clan, says that "squaw" is a slang term meaning "schmuck" or, in the proper term, "penis," and therefore should not be used in denoting a plant meant to be used by women.) Keep an eye out this spring and see if you can catch Mitchella blooming. Then you'll see why she's sometimes called "twin flower." Interestingly, when the paired flowers fall off, they leave behind but one berry to ripen. (The shiny red berries you've noticed in the forest winter or spring. Yes, they are safe to eat, but leave some for the partridges.) The symbolism of two flowers forming one berry is certainly a suitable icon for fertility. I make a medicinal vinegar by filling a small jar with the fresh leaves, adding apple cider vinegar until the jar is full again. A piece of waxed paper held in place with a rubber band and a label (including date) completes the preparation, which must sit at room temperature for six weeks before use. I enjoy up to a tablespoonful of the vinegar on my salads or in my beans. By mid- to late-May, the yellow blossoms of liferoot (Senecio aureus) enliven my swamp (in upstate New York) and the neighboring roads where there is adequate water and rich soil. A powerful medicine resides in all parts of this lovely wildflower. As the root has a dangerous reputation, I restrict myself to using only the flowers and leaves, which I harvest in bloom, and quickly tincture. (For instructions for making your own tinctures, please see any of my books.) Small doses of this tincture (3-8 drops a day), taken at least 14 days out of the month, will regulate hormone production, increase libido, normalize the menses, relieve menstrual pain, and improve fertility. The closely related Senecia jacobea and Senecio vulgaris can also be used. Wild carrot (Daucus carota), better known as Queen Anne's lace, is such a common roadside plant that most people are amazed to learn that it is a proven anti-fertility herb. In addition to being the wild cousin of carrot, it is related to parsley, dill, caraway, anise, celery, cumin, and a (now extinct) plant whose seeds were the birth-control of choice for many a classical Greek or Roman woman. The aromatic seeds of wild carrot are collected in the fall and eaten (a heaping teaspoonful a day) to prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg. In one small study the effectiveness rate after thirteen months of use was 99%. As modern scientific medicine reports that one-third of all fertilized eggs are passed out of the body without implanting in the uterus, this method of birth control seems in complete agreement with nature. Of the hundreds of women currently using this anti-fertility agent, I have heard virtually no reports of any side-effects. Note that many books caution you to beware the danger of confusing poison hemlock and wild carrot. Poison hemlock is rather scarce in our area, and, at any rate, does not smell or taste of carrot (as does Queen Anne's lace), so I believe this warning to be a red herring. In addition, wild carrot leaves have small hairs on them, while the leaves of poison hemlock are smooth. Another anti-fertility herb that has been tested by small groups of modern women is wild yam (Dioscorea villosa). Since birth-control pills were originally made from this plant, it is not at all surprising that it has the effect of blocking conception when taken daily in rather large doses: either a cup of tea or two capsules taken three times a day. Does it have detrimental effects? Current studies are too small to show any, but there is a possibility that there could be. Interestingly enough, if wild yam is taken in small doses (a cup of tea or 10-20 drops of the tincture daily from onset of menses until mid-period) it increases fertility! In either case, the effect seems to be triggered by the large amount of hormone-like substances found in this root. When taken daily, these substances may be converted into progesterone, thus decreasing the possibility of conception. When taken for the two weeks preceding ovulation, these substances may be converted into LH and FSH, hormones that are needed to make the egg ready to be fertilized. Other common weeds and garden plants of our area that have been used to increase or decrease fertility include stinging nettle, oatstraw, pennyroyal, Jack-in-the-pulpit, rue, and parsley. The earth is full of wonders, and green magic abounds. As more and more women remember that they are wise women, more of the wonders and the magic will be revealed. Radio Controlled Cars � A Brief History

By William Hazelhurst Radio controlled cars first appeared some sixty years ago in the 1940s but the technology at the time was crude and, although cars could be run at speeds of up to 70 mph, it was only possible to run them round and round in a circle on a tether. By the late 1960s however technology had advanced considerably and miniature solid state radio control systems became available. This meant that cars could be controlled from a control transmitter unit with remotely controlled servo-assisted steering, throttle and brakes. Radio controlled models could now be run on a race track rather than simply in a circle and the precision of control available meant that they could be run in much the same way as a real vehicle. Despite the advances in technology during the 1960s, it was not until 1976 that the first commercially available cars were seen. Produced by Tamiya (a Japanese company with a reputation for supplying detailed plastic model kits), these early cars were very crude in mechanical terms and somewhat expensive but, nevertheless, they sold well. Over the coming years Tamiya concentrated its attention on the mechanics of these early models and, by the mid 1980s, they were producing some extremely popular models such as the Grasshopper, Hornet, Blackfoot and Clodbuster with more powerful engines, working suspension systems and textured tyres. This was really the start of the hobby radio controlled car as we know it today and quickly brought other producers into the market. These included Schumacher Racing (a British company which replaced the then standard solid axle with a ball differential, allowing cars to be finely tuned for different track conditions) and Associated Electrics (a California based company which introduced the model that quickly dominated the off-road racing market - the RC10 off-road electric car). The 1980s saw a major shift away from what many described as "toy" cars towards truly precision crafted models of the very highest standards. Traditional manufacturing materials were dispensed with as were many of the established production methods. Chassis were now made from high-grade anodized aluminium alloy, which was also used in the manufacture of oil-filled, machined and tunable shock absorbers. Many components normally pressed from plastic were also replaced with high-impact nylon, including such things as suspension control arms and wheels. Today's interest in off-road 4 wheel drive vehicles was also sparked during the 1980s with the introduction by Schumacher of the Competition All Terrain (CAT) vehicle which won the off-road world championship in 5 out of the 10 years following its introduction. Competition is of course the driving force behind any market today, including the market for radio controlled cars, and for several years a strong rivalry between Associated Electrics and Team Losi (founded by Gil Losi Jr., a racetrack owner from California) led to a rapid development of high quality models, both technically and in terms of the range of cars available. Today Associate Electric and Team Losi are still major players in the market and have been joined by others such as the US-based Traxxas company and the Japanese-based company of Kyosho. We paid for it with force labor, low wages and long sufferings, from wars past and present. Well lets see what the Bible says about this. First look at 2Corinthians 1:3 it says Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any troubles with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation, if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort. We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. If anyone is confident that he belongs to Christ, he should consider again we belong to Christ just as much as he. For even if I boast somewhat freely about the authority the Lord gave us for building you up rather than pulling you down, I will not be ashamed of it. Now look at verse 12 it says We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. We, however, will not boast beyond proper limits, but will confine our boasting to the field God has assigned to us, a field that reaches even to you. Now look at Ephesians 1:17 it says I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. Look at 2Timothy 1:8 it says So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, who has saved us and called us to a holy lifenot because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day. In closing look at 2Corinthians 4:13 it says It is written: I believed; therefore I have spoken. With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in his presence. All this is for you benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
